The Singapura cat is a breed of cats, whose homeland still cannot be identified. Some say that this cat is Kucinta, which means “cat of love”, while others call it “child of gutters”. Can such conflicting reviews be about the same pussy? And what is Singapura cat in fact?
History of the origin of the breed
The history of the breed is spy passions. On the island of Singapore, cats, the ancestors of the future breed, were abundant and mostly in drainpipes and ditches. When the government reconstructed the sewer system, part of the cat population died. And, perhaps, these beauties would disappear in some time, but there was intervention.
An American (Mr. Meadow), allegedly a geophysicist, visiting Singapore for business, spotted unusual cats and sent four Asian cats to his girlfriend to America. Breeders were then very interested in miniature breeds and four minicats (or rather a tomcat and three cats). It is not known exactly about the selection process of Meadow and his girlfriend.
But 10 years later, other breeders decided to replenish the American nurseries with fresh Singaporean specimens.
Then, Mr. Meadow appeared again on the stage, who was trying to prove that the honor of the founder of the breed belonged to him. But it turned out that he was on a secret mission in Singapore and to prove the fact that it was he who sent the first Asians to the New World was impossible.
Be that as it may, the freshly-found Singapura Cats found a common language with the already existing American cats and, “jumping from the mud to the princes”, Kucinta became complete favorites! This breed is similar to Ceylon cats.
Description of Singapura Cat Breed
There are no pictures to convey the special glow that comes from the Singapura cats. They have eyes shining and literally every wool!
This luminescence standard of the breed, of course, is not included in the description, but ignore the act that Singaporeans are very radiant ladies impossible!
1. Head is very neat and rounded. Noticeable roundness from the outer corners of the eyes to the whisker break and the rounded profile are the characteristic features of the breed:
- Nose is dull, slightly below eye level. The nose and chin should form a straight line;
- The ears are large. The small size of the ears is a disqualification. The auricles are deep. Their external sides should be either parallel or slightly diluted upwards;
- The eyes are large and very shiny, the shape is almond-shaped. They are set obliquely and the distance between the eyes does not exceed the width of the eye. Eye color can be green, yellowish-green or yellow. Red, gray, black impurity is excluded. How does this cat look referring to a special glance? It looks as if it had just been surprised. Amazement in a glance in any situation is noted by all the owners of these beauties.
2. Until recent times, the Singapura cat was considered the smallest in the world. Singapore’s kittens are really quite miniature, but they are very strong and muscular.
The limbs are of medium size and they are really powerful. The paws are small and oval.
The length of the tail according to the standard should be such that the tail, lying along the body, reaches out the shoulders of the cat. The tail itself should not be whip-shaped; it is thinner to the tip and rounded.
Adult cats weigh about 2 kg, and tomcats gain weight up to 3 kg and this is their maximum.
3. A kitten of Singapura breed should not be silky to the touch. It is the quality of fur as well as its excessive softness is disqualification signs. Wool in adult animals is thin, short. Long hair can only be found in small kittens.
Differences of Singapura cats from other breeds is the size, a special look, and, of course, an unusual color of a pink tone!
Each part of fur has at least two areas of dark ticking, between which a light zone passes. At the base the fur is light and dark to the tip. The fur practically does not shed.
Dark as the tip of the tail, a strip is along the entire length of the tail and on the upper part of the body. The strip can pass along the inner surface of the forepaws and along the knees of the hind limbs.
International organizations recognize only two colors: “sable” and “ivory”.
White markings, rings on the tail, absence of ticking on the head are not allowed.
“Do not stand or jump, nor do you shout where construction is going on” and where the Singapura cat lives. Animals of this breed are fearful and do not tolerate when somebody quarrel alongside or a little buzz. Singapura features have become their virtues.
Yes, they are very careful with new people. Yes, they need time to look and sniff. But they are delicate and do not shock guests at home with insane antics.
Madness is not their style at all. Singapura cat puzzles with pleasure, but only when it is expected of her.
According to the owners, the character of Singapura is friendly and peaceful. But you need to know that a person for them will never become an authority regardless of the correctness of care. They, of course, will show their tenderness in every way (for example, trample on their paws) and take a reciprocal human caress, but they always make decisions on their own, based on their own cat experience.
They themselves are excellent and caring parents and if human cubs are in the family, they will be accepted as relatives and constantly patronized.
A small cat is also different by the fact that it develops slowly. The full development of Singapuras is achieved only by two years. The nurseries relinquish Singapuras kittens “to the world” at the age of 12-16 weeks.
Like any cat, deduced by nature itself, the Singapura cat is famous for its strong health.
Only occasionally there is an increased sensitivity to vaccination.
Just need to know that Singapuras do not tolerate drafts. How can I identify if a cat has a cold? Pay attention to such symptoms as:
- secretion from the nose and eyes;
- general sluggishness of the animal;
- regular sneezing;
- slight increase in temperature.
If you have these symptoms, you need to contact a veterinary clinic. The cold is easy enough to be treated, but it is better to prevent the possibility of the disease and protect the animal from the cold that it does not like. Probably, that is why Singapura cat is rarely found in Ukraine and in Russia,.
However, the widespread popularity of the breed is also hindered by the fact that one cat does not have more than 4 kittens in a litter.
Life expectancy of Singapura breed cat is 15 years.
Care and maintenance
Eliminate drafts, brush the fur every two weeks, and periodically wipe ears and eyes – and the Asian cat will be grateful to you!
By the way, many owners note the special ingenuity of the cat, when it visits the “ladies’ room”. The Singapuras correctly understand why a large porcelain vase is designed and in time many of them begin to do their ‘business’ sitting in the toilet.
You can accelerate this addiction to the toilet, by purchasing a special seat for your pet. And do not forget to put together a newspaper with crossword puzzles at the same time!
Singapura cat feeding
This cat needn’t keep a diet – obesity does not threaten Singapuras. Diets are for cowards, and the Singapura cat is afraid of only drafts.
Nevertheless, proper nutrition is a pledge of well-being.
Natural food should be balanced. It is not necessary to feed the Singapura cat with pork, sausages, river fish, sweets and milk. Cereals, lean meat, not red vegetables are a great menu for Singapuras!
Ready-made food should contain at least 30% of meat, and their digestibility should be at least 80%.
Singapura cat price
Today Singapura still belongs to rare breeds. It is common in the US, but in Europe Singapore is almost never met.
The price for a kitten without a package of documents is about $300, but the cost of a kitten of show class reaches $2000.
